Peter and Deborah Noble stand together looking out over the 26-acre property they saved from residential development. The land is recognized by the city of Eugene as the Be Noble Foundation, which was established by the couple in 2015 in honor of their son, Erin, who died in a plane crash near the annual Oregon Country Fair three years prior. The foundation protects the headwaters of the Amazon Creek from pollution and erosion, and provides critical habitat for Eugene’s native plants and animals.

Molly Macalpine, 29, is a multidisciplinary artist located in Portland, Oregon. “I’ve been painting on and off since I was a little kid, but I started painting again suddenly about six years ago and haven’t stopped since.” With her new studio Macalpine says it’s easier to paint without life interruptions. However, Macalpine does note that her craft isn’t the most lucrative. She graduated with a BFA from Saint Mary’s in northern California but has yet to make a career from her education. Although Macalpine has only sold a few paintings, she is preparing her portfolio to present to local galleries in Portland. “I really don’t have a choice whether to paint or not so I’ll never stop. After losing her oldest daughter to cancer, when her grandson was only 7 months old, IRCO provided the resources and support she needed to continue caring for her family.

However; soon after spending her savings on what would have been her first home; her child’s father set it on fire and burnt it to the ground. Thompson and Murphy now reside in the single wide trailer that sits just a few yards away from her original home. Sunday; Nov. 2; 2019.
